Switchboard and mains upgrades in Melbourne's south east.
Old ceramic fuses and shared safety switches weren't built for the load a modern house puts through them. We work out what your property actually draws, replace the board with individually protected circuits, and upgrade the mains where the supply can't keep up.
01 / The job
A board sized for the house you'll have, not the one you had.
Most switchboard problems start with a house asking more of its wiring than it was designed for. Ducted gas gets swapped for split systems, a gas cooktop becomes induction, a car starts charging in the garage. Each change adds load to a board that was often installed decades ago.
We start with a load calculation for the finished house, so the upgrade is sized once and properly. Every circuit gets its own RCBO, which means a fault on one circuit only switches off that circuit instead of half the house, and everything is labelled so you, or the next electrician, can tell what's what at a glance.
Where the incoming supply is the bottleneck, we upgrade the consumer mains and coordinate the service fuse work with the distributor. We'll tell you how long the power will be off before the day, and leave spare space in the board for solar, a battery or an EV charger later.

Asked often.
Do I need a mains upgrade to install an EV charger?
Sometimes, and it depends on the finished load rather than the charger alone. A house with gas cooking and gas hot water often has room for a 7kW charger as-is. A fully electric house with an induction cooktop, heat pump and three split systems usually doesn't. We do a capacity check before quoting so you know either way before you buy a unit.
Do you charge for quotes?
Quotes for planned work (switchboards, EV chargers, splits, rewires and electrification) are free and given in writing after we've been on site. Fault finding is charged, because the diagnosis is the work; we'll tell you the call-out rate on the phone before we book anything in.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NPJ Electrical Services is a Registered Electrical Contractor, REC 29126, with full public liability cover, and we issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety for every job. Our licence and ABN are in the footer and on every quote we send.
