Every circuit accounted for.

A licensed electrical contractor working across Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. Switchboards and rewiring, EV chargers, split systems, smoke alarms, CCTV, fault finding, and taking a whole house off gas.

Every job is priced in writing before we start, carried out by the electrician who quoted it, and handed over with a Certificate of Electrical Safety and a labelled board schedule.

What we take on.

Residential and small commercial. We keep the job list narrow on purpose — it means the person who quotes your job is the person who does it.

Old ceramic fuses and shared RCDs weren't built for the load a modern house puts through them. We work out what the property actually draws, replace the board with individually protected circuits, and upgrade the mains where the supply can't keep up.

  • Load calculation before we quote, not after
  • Every circuit on its own RCBO and clearly labelled
  • Consumer mains and service fuse upgrades, coordinated with the distributor
  • Space left in the board for solar, battery and EV later

Supply and install, or install a charger you've already bought. The part most people get caught out by is capacity — we check whether your supply can carry a charger at full output and tell you before you commit to a unit.

  • Capacity check and honest advice on 7kW versus 22kW
  • Dedicated circuit, correctly sized cable, tidy routing
  • Load management so the charger backs off instead of tripping the house
  • Wall, post and garage mounting; solar-aware setups

Reverse cycle units sized to the room rather than to the cheapest box on the shelf. We supply the units ourselves, so there's one price and one person to call if anything goes wrong, or we'll fit one you've already bought. Either way we handle the electrical and the install, including the runs nobody wants to do — through roof cavities, around heritage cornices, up to a second storey.

  • Sizing based on room volume, glazing and orientation
  • Dedicated circuits and isolators
  • Concealed pipe and drain runs wherever the building allows
  • Colorbond capping on the external runs — it keeps its colour instead of yellowing and going chalky the way plastic ducting does
  • Outdoor unit placement planned around noise and sightlines

Nuisance tripping, flickering lights, hot switches, a circuit that's dead for no obvious reason. We test methodically to find the actual cause rather than swapping parts until it stops — and we tell you what we found.

  • Insulation resistance and earth continuity testing
  • Thermal imaging on boards and connections where it's warranted
  • Safety switch and smoke alarm testing to schedule
  • A written summary of the fault and the fix

From a single room to a full rewire of a period home. We'd rather sit down with the plans early — lighting layouts and outlet positions are cheap to change on paper and expensive to change once the plaster is on.

  • Lighting and power planning before rough-in
  • Full rewires in weatherboard, brick veneer and solid brick
  • Staged so you can keep living in the house where possible
  • Coordination with builders, cabinetmakers and plumbers

Smoke alarms have a use-by date — ten years from the date stamped inside — and most people have never looked. We replace expired units, add alarms where the building code says there should be one, and interconnect them so a fire at the back of the house wakes the people at the front.

  • Photoelectric alarms to AS 3786, hardwired or sealed 10-year lithium
  • Interconnected by cable or wirelessly, so one alarm sets off all of them
  • Placement worked out to the building code — each storey and outside every sleeping area
  • Testing and compliance for rental properties, as a one-off or annually

Cameras are only worth having if the footage is worth watching. We spend the time on camera positions — faces at head height, plates at the driveway, every way in covered — then run proper cabling to a recorder on site, so the system keeps working whether or not the internet is. Homes and small commercial premises both.

  • Cameras on dedicated PoE cabling rather than Wi-Fi, so nothing drops out
  • Recorder installed on site with enough storage to go back weeks, not days
  • Positions planned for entry points, driveways and blind spots before we drill anything
  • Cabling run and terminated out of sight, not taped down a wall
  • Set up on your phone and walked through with you before we leave

Shops, cafés, studios, clinics, childcare centres and warehouses. We work around opening hours and keep the site presentable, because your customers are usually still walking past while we're in there.

  • Fit-outs, shop lighting and three-phase equipment connections
  • Exit and emergency lighting installation and testing
  • Test and tag, plus scheduled maintenance visits
  • After-hours and weekend work by arrangement

Taking a home fully electric is one project with an order of operations, not four separate trades. We start at the switchboard, size it for the finished house, then bring the gas appliances across all at once or in stages, so nothing is installed twice.

  • Switchboard and mains sized for the finished load
  • Gas cooktop to induction, gas hot water to a heat pump
  • Gas heating to reverse cycle split systems
  • Gas supply abolished once everything is running on electricity

02 / About

Your electrician, not a call centre.

I'm James, and NPJ Electrical Services is my business. I started it in 2019 after years on the tools, and I've now been in the trade for 12 years. I hold an A Grade licence, and NPJ is a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC 29126).

I run it the way I'd want a tradie to treat my own home: a fixed price in writing before we start, the site left clean every day, and a Certificate of Electrical Safety when we're done. On larger jobs I bring in licensed subcontractors I trust, and I stay responsible for every job from start to finish.

03 / How we work

Four steps, no surprises.

The same process whether it's a single power point or a full rewire.

  1. STEP 01

    We come and look

For anything beyond a simple repair we attend in person. Quoting a switchboard from a photo helps nobody.

  2. STEP 02

    You get a fixed price

Itemised, in writing, with what's included and what isn't. If we hit something genuinely unforeseen, you hear about it before we proceed.

  3. STEP 03

    We do the work

Arriving when we said, drop sheets down, dust managed, and the site left clean at the end of every day — not just the last one.

  4. STEP 04

    You get the documentation

Certificate of Electrical Safety, a labelled board schedule, test results, and warranty details. Filed, not verbal.

04 / Standards

Why people keep our number.

  • One electrician, start to finish

The person who quotes your job is the person who does it. Nothing gets lost between a salesperson and a subcontractor.

  • Fixed prices before we start

Quoted in writing and itemised. Variations are agreed in advance, never added to the final invoice as a surprise.

  • Documented on completion

Certificate of Electrical Safety, board schedule, and test results for every job. It matters at sale time and at insurance time.

  • Clean sites

Drop sheets, dust control, and cable runs planned to minimise patching. We work in occupied homes constantly and behave accordingly.

  • Workmanship warranty

Backed in writing, on top of the manufacturer's warranty on anything we supply.

I had an excellent experience working with James. His expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail was outstanding. He completed the job efficiently and took the time to explain his process, ensuring I understood every step. He communicated clearly and consistently from start to finish. I highly recommend James for any electrical needs and will definitely be reaching out again in the future!

06 / Questions

Asked often.

Do I need a mains upgrade to install an EV charger?

Sometimes, and it depends on the finished load rather than the charger alone. A house with gas cooking and gas hot water often has room for a 7kW charger as-is. A fully electric house with an induction cooktop, heat pump and three split systems usually doesn't. We do a capacity check before quoting so you know either way before you buy a unit.

How long does a full rewire take, and can we stay in the house?

A typical three-bedroom period home runs one to two weeks depending on access and how much of the floor and ceiling we can get into. Most clients stay put. We stage the work room by room so you always have power and lighting where you're sleeping and cooking, and we agree the sequence with you before day one.

Can we electrify in stages instead of all at once?

Yes, and most people do. The usual approach is to upgrade the switchboard and mains first, then replace each gas appliance as it reaches the end of its life. We design for the finished house from the start, so circuits are run once and staged work doesn't cost you more overall.

Do you handle disconnecting the gas as well?

We coordinate it. The abolishment itself is done by a licensed gas fitter and your retailer, and we make sure it happens in the right order — after everything is running on electricity, and not before. Once it's done, the gas standing charge stops appearing on your bill.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. NPJ Electrical Services is a Registered Electrical Contractor, REC 29126, with full public liability cover, and we issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety for every job. Our licence and ABN are in the footer and on every quote we send.

Do you charge for quotes?

Quotes for planned work — switchboards, EV chargers, splits, rewires and electrification — are free and given in writing after we've been on site. Fault finding is charged, because the diagnosis is the work; we'll tell you the call-out rate on the phone before we book anything in.

How quickly can you get to an urgent fault?

Call us and we'll tell you honestly. Genuine safety issues — burning smells, hot switchboards, exposed conductors — get priority over scheduled work. If we can't get to you quickly enough, we'll say so rather than leave you waiting.
